The Internal Spaces of Art

My study of artists has evolved into a study of instruments. Not instruments of application: paint brushes, pigments, shutter speeds, and spinning wheels. But the instruments at work in the internal atelier of the artist, used in the internal workshops, those instruments of mind which generate the zooming in and zooming out of perspective, the tightening and loosening, the sharpening and blurring, the framing and un-framing, the object in place and out of place, the adding of emotion and the out-stripping of emotion. These instruments and how they are applied, create the inexhaustible spaces, the unique spaces, in which art, the artist and you and me, fold into and fold out of.
